@ Thomas: Thank you for your review. Yes, it is true, there are several options to secure your assets as an expat here in the UAE. Depending on the residency (which emirate) and the assets, there are more suitable solutions.

Since the UAE is not a treaty state to the Hague convention (acceptance of other jurisdiction wills), there is no guarantee that a foreign will is actually enforceable in the UAE. Beside the lengthy proceedings, also the translations and attestations are to be done (everything has to be in Arabic and properly attested via the UAE embassy in the home country and the MOFA here in the UAE) and might be a hassle.

Very good article – good overview on an important topic for us expats. The expat will options in a nutshell.

There are now so many options out there, but I got to know that not all wills offer the same protection. Does anyone have experience with Dubai (non-DIFC) will enforcement?

Is it true that foreign wills (even properly attested and translated) are hard to enforce here in the UAE?
